20. How would you know if you need a permit to work before starting a job?
You will need to check with your local Jobcentre Plus
You will need to ask your colleagues
You will be told at your site induction
You will need to check the HSE website
Ok, after doing sooooo many of these Mock questions a few have stood out, im sorry but Im going to argue my point. The ‘correct’ answer to this question is… told on your site induction. Now if im going to a job Im going to make sure i have all permits, documents etc in place before i turn up.Why would i go to a job and be told i need a permit and then if i dont have the permit/ paper work required i then loose a days work!? Now i might be missing something and i look forward to the comments/disscusion but shouldnt we be looking a few steps ahead not at the obvious??? Help Me…
This question relates to fire safety permits (Hot Works Permits) Doesn’t apply to every trade but only guys who use tools that could potentially start a fire like roofer or floor layer welder as an example. You can’t already have this permit in place before you turn up as these permits normally only last for one working day. The permit has to be signed of by the site manager, site agent or who every has been placed in charge of this on each site. They sign it off in the morning, Then sign it off at the end of each working day. It’s so they know where about in the building you are using it. And to make sure you have proper PPE and fire extinguisher and soon on
I forgot as well, you won’t lose a days wage. To get a hot works permit all you have to do is ask the appropriate person in charge for one and the give you one. it’s just an extra safety step that’s all
Read about Safe System of Work. It will help you understand the difference between the permit to work and the “work permit”(right to work) you are referring to.
It’s becoming more common to require permits for using step ladders fe access some areas, normal for hot works. Site manager need to asses if safe and if no other way, think it also make him more responsible if something goes wrong than employer. Most of these are to cover them from paying large insurance claims if something happen
I agree with the above contributor very useful and conditions you to pass the test when it comes.
Very useful indeed. I have a test coming up soon and hopefully these questions will help me pass.
